SuperPipe Showdown Tonight!

250107FS03.jpgIt's a beautiful morning in Aspen, Colorado. The air is crisp and cold, and just a couple miles outside of town at Buttermilk the Winter X Games SuperPipe is sitting dormant. In hours a thousand floodlights and millions of eyes will set it ablaze in the Colorado night. The forecast for the evening is calling for 25 degrees and snow showers. It will be interesting to see how the riders deal with a possibly slow pipe. Yesterday in SuperPipe qualifying, Tanner Hall lead the field with a staggering 95.33 final score. Simon Dumont came in second with a 89.33 final score. And indication of how Red Bull's own are dominating the SuperPipe event, don't let these scores lead you to any rash assumptions: anything can happen at X and anything can come out of the bag on finals night.

Tanner and Simon will come to terms this evening with the fact that only one of them can phantom into the night with a gold medal around his neck. Speculation is rampant around town as to who has it in the bag. We're here to wish both Tanner and Simon the best of luck and a safe competition. It's quite possible flipping and spinning 20 feet above an ice hard pipe is the most dangerous job around on a Thursday night. But, these two are the best pipe riders in the world. Every move and every trick has been trained for in countless ways and will be executed with frightening precision.

We hope you managed to arrange the night off, because this is one show you won't want to miss. If you can see it live, set your DVR or dig your VCR out of the basement.

Men's SuperPipe Finals: Thursday, January 24th. 9-11 p.m. on ESPN *Eastern Standard Time
