The Massive Lands in Park City!

IMG_8150-2logo.jpgThis story begins in LA, Santa Monica to be exact. Less than 12 hours after the Red Bull North American Headquarters premiere of The Massive and I'm sitting in LAX for my flight to Salt Lake City. I tried to catch an earlier flight to no avail, so I'm waiting for the next one when Tanner Hall strolls up to the gate area. I figured he'd be on this flight as he has the same destination I do: Park City for a premiere of The Massive just 24-hours after the one that has brought us to LA. And this is after four days in Montreal at IF3 the previous weekend and Boulder for the world premiere just a day prior to that. The days, airline flights, and parties are blending together.

But there's something different about going to Park City, for Tanner and for me. For Tanner because it's his home, his house is there, his friends are there. For me because I know I'm along for the ride to get to Tanner's house and chill out. We spent a week there in February while filming for The Massive and I can hear Tanner's plush leather couch calling me. We are both also aware that Darla Hall, Tanner's mom, is already there and whipping up home cooked goodness the likes of which we have not seen in a long time. Yes, Park City will be good.

IMG_8117.jpgWe touch down in Park City and head to the rental counter. I'm getting a car and driving Tanner and Eric Iberg up to Park City. I'm in a haze after many days heavy on booze and light on sleep. The rental agent asks if a Hummer is okay, they are out of midsize cars. I grumble an affirmation. Whatever lady, just give me a car. The fire engine red Hummer H3 is a monstrosity to say the least. Not the kind of fuel economy in line with our general outlook on the environment, but it's somehow appropriate to take us the last big premiere for The Massive.

Up to Park City and its just hours to show time. The sun is going down and Darla is in the kitchen kicking out the best finger food you could ever wish for. Iberg jumps in and takes command of the bacon wrapped shrimp. It's a real family affair as Tanner's brother, Tyson Hall, also made the trip out from LA. Tanner's connections in Park City also run very deep and friends show up to the house in droves. It's refreshing to have this kind of intimate gathering after being at so many clubs and industry parties.

As the sun goes down, the crew rolls to downtown Park City. It seems like the entire town has the same idea. The wind blows cold and the day was full of the kind of fast moving fall storms that bring the first hints of winter to the mountains. Lower Main Street is closed off and a huge three-story movie screen is erected at the bottom. The natural slope of the street gives the venue a outdoor stadium feel and the rustling leaves of turning aspens lend to a truly epic premiere for The Massive.

IMG_8164.jpgFollowing the movie, Tanner and CR Johnson signed posters for throngs of fans and threw out boxes and boxes of swag. The party moved uphill to Harry O's, where a solid reggae act brought everybody well into the morning hours. Another successful premiere, everybody had a killer time.

The next couple days around Tanner's house were very laid back. Discussions of the upcoming season, the Dew Tour, X Games, and various business ventures to let Tanner bring more content to his fans. It wasn't all lazing around, however. I went with Tanner to the gym in Park City where he got on a stationary bike for a good hour and then went a dropped a whole slew of squats. Tanner said he wants to get in the gym every day for the next couple months and I believe he will. There's no denying Tanner knows how to have fun and party, but there's also no denying that Tanner is one of the hardest working pros in the business. He knows about the talent knocking on his door and he's really got a focused lock on what he needs to do to beat out the competition again this season. I can't wait to see what he brings to the table in the next couple months.
