The Massive PNW Tour
The crowd seemed to genuinely enjoy the movie, especially the final
scene. When the Timberline sign came on the screen and faded to the
heli shot of Tanner's truck ripping up the road to the lodge, well,
let's just say the roar from the crowd was worthy of an AC/DC concert.
Everyone should've walked away with the goods. Swag abounded in the
form of Dakine packs, gloves, and hats; Oakley shade and goggles;
Armada hats and beanies; stacks of free Powder Magazines; and many,
many The Massive T-shirts. A big shout out to Al Dicksen and the whole
Portland Red Bull crew who made the magic happen, and Sean Boland from
Oakley and Armada for wrangling up some epic goods for the Wings Team
ladies to toss to the rabid crowd.
Following the show, a fatty after party was organized at The Boiler Room in Chinatown. The drink special of the night was called The Massive and included Red Bull and a pint glass. That's all we can remember. Oh, and there was some downright pro-style karaoke going down as well with one LCD playing the songs and one at the other end of the bar looping The Massive for everyone's enjoyment into the wee hours of the morning.
There was little time to rest and Saturday afternoon Red Bull Skiing raced up I-5, destination Evo. If you ever get a chance to see a ski or snowboard flick at Evo, take it. They have their whole situation dialed to a point it's scary. Like Optimus Prime, in 30 minutes what began as a sick shop bulging at the seams with the dopest gear transforms quickly into a prime movie venue complete with a bar and massive screen hanging from the ceiling. It's a sight to behold, and what's more you can fondle all the latest powder boards you've been oogling online all summer.
As showtime neared, Evo was graced with an appearance by Tanner Hall's mother, Darla. Escourted by other various family members, Darla made sure to represent Tanner like nobody else could hope to do. Tanner had really wanted to be at both PNW shows, but he's busy training like a maniac for the London Freeze next weekend and couldn't take the time off.
The crowd at Evo was also privy to another special treat in the form of The Massive playing with The Fine Line: A 16mm Avy Education Film. The air outside had the bite of winter on it and both films did a complete job of getting everyone stoked for the snow that will fall in the Cascades any day now. Again, tons of swag from Dakine, stack of Powder Mags, and many The Massive shirts for the crowd. Pyramid Beer always hooks it up for Evo shows, so the $5 entry fee for two movies and as much premium beer as you could handle may have been the deal of the century. The underagers were stoked to find as much free Red Bull as they could down as well.
In Seattle, big shout outs to Evo Gear for being the best movie hosts. Justin Donahue and the staff that worked after hours to get it done were amazing in making a great night. And big ups to Bryce Phillips for slinging fat skis out of his truck not so long ago and persevering to make Evo a vital force for the good of the sport. Also, thanks to Jilli Victorio and Brant Wahlman of Red Bull Seattle for epic efforts.
