Tanner and Simon Both Take The Podium In Pipe Finals at X!
There were rumblings the last few days of Bertoni as a possible winner, but when it comes down to it Tanner and Simon have a lifetime of SuperPipe comp experience versus Bertoni, who's only other finish this year was 5th place at Dew Tour in Breck. For someone to best Tanner and Simon they would have to throw down the flawless run of a lifetime...in front of thousands in the crowd...and millions of viewers at home watching on ESPN. That's just what Bertoni did.
Tanner pulled everything out of his bag of tricks including his double
flip at the top of the pipe. Despite it being on of the first super
clean doubles in competition, the judges were apparently not as
impressed by it as they were Bertoni's smooth style. Simon laid down a
pretty Simon-esque run, complete with jaw-dropping amplitude. In the
end it wasn't quite enough.
But nobody's complaining. It seems very cliche to say, but tonight really was, again, the best pipe competition that ever went down. It was close and in the end everyone is just excited to see the sport bump up that much further on the progression scale.
