Catching Up with Daron Rahlves

DSC_5406.jpgDaron, give us a rundown of what you were up to this summer.

We, my wife Michelle and I, kids Miley and Dreyson, pups Chevy and Streif split summer between Truckee and Encinitas. Getting the best of both worlds on Lake Tahoe and in the SoCal waves.  Our 14 month old twins are walking now and picking things up like little sponges. A few baby mumbles, but what amazes me is they know what we're saying and do things we ask. Crazy!!! The sporting highlight for me was racing Mammoth Motocross in June. That is the best race of the summer. The day before the weekend races I skied in the morning and then had afternoon practice sessions on the moto track. Oh yeah, that was the best combo day of the summer. I got back on skis 4 times over the summer. Mammoth, Mt Hood for Atomic, Ski Dubai for Spyder, and Portillo, Chile for Atomic. I've got the itch for skiing because of that. And what really ruined it for me was checking out Tanner's The Massive Premier at Red Bull headquarters.  Now I'm really jonesing.  I think it's easier to forget how fun it is when you're away for a while. I was off skis the last two summers after walking away from ski racing and 20 years of summer skiing.  It didn't sink in like it has this year.  Winter, bring it!

I have three film parts in Warren Miller's "Children of Winter" skiing Austria, Rage Films "Down Days" from Haines, AK and Atomic's "Skiing Is" from XGames and Valdez.

TeamPage.jpgLots of stuff always going on over at the Team page at RedBullSkiing.com. This is the place where little things about your favorite Red Bull skiers live. Just today we got some news from the world of Simon Dumont and Tanner Hall: A raging party at Freeskier HQ and some water ramp and tramp footy you have to see to believe.

Daron Rahlves in Dubai

SkiDubai_Structure_520.jpgLeave it to ol' Daron Rahlves to head to one of the hottest places on earth to do some skiing in the off season. "It was 96 degrees and the air was dripping wet. It was so thick and hot you had to gulp down each inhale," D said. Good thing he only spent a grand total of 15 minutes of the two days he was there actually outside. The rest of the time Daron enjoyed the climate controlled environment of cars, hotels, malls, and Dubai's famous state-of-the-art skiing facility.

Summer Shredding with Daron Rahlves!

DSC_5406.jpgLast week I caught up with Daron Rahlves at Mt. Hood for a little bit of winter in July. With Timberline still holding ample snow, Daron and I found some sweet pockets of sugary goodness off to the west and proceeded to lay trenches down to the length of the Palmer lift. It was no mid-winter pow day, but for it being nearly August, well, let's just say we were both stoked to be back on snow.
