The most decorated American Downhill and Super G skier in history. Daron has won 12 World Cup races, had 28 World Cup podiums, had 7 US National Titles, is the 2001 World Champion in Super G, won the silver medal at the 2005 Worlds in downhill, and bronze medal in giant slalom. Not to mention he was the winner of the legendary Hahnenkamm downhill in 2003, and super g in 2004, along with seven podium finishes in Kitzbuhel over five years. If you don't know what the Hahnenkamm is, read "gnarliest downhill race in the world."

Now he's making a transition from alpine ski racing to skiercross comps on The 48 Straight Jeep King of the Mountain Tour and X-Games, along with big mountain skiing. "My goal is to explore more of the sport of skiing. That's why I decided to retire from World Cup racing when I was on top and healthy. On my own terms," D says. Time is spent at home in Truckee, CA and balancing that out with a new home wife Michelle and he bought in Encinitas, CA. He now has a good place to escape from the mountains and get some time in the surf and on his Honda CRF450R at SoCal motocross tracks.

Next winter look for Daron competing in seven skiercross events for the US Team. "Skicross is keeping me in the competitive skiing game. Head to head battles with four or six other skiers gets the adrenaline pumping," he says. Daron will also defend his X Games gold medal in Aspen and focus on freeskiing by filming around Tahoe, Alaska and more. Daron is committed to skiing in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver as well, so keep checking in here and to his website to track his progress.

Daron in Dubai

DaronDubai.jpg"What's it like skiing outside?"

That was the question I never thought I'd ever hear, but for the people in Dubai that's what they asked. Chad my Spyder Team Manager and I landed in Dubai at 1:30am. It was 96 degrees and the air was dripping wet. IT was so thick and hot you had to gulp down each inhale. How do they live in these conditions? Well I didn't ever give myself a chance to try. Out of two days I spent about 15mins outside. The rest of the time I was either in the hotel, car, mall or skiing.

Walking into Ski Dubai and stepping onto the snow blew me away. It's huge for an indoor ski hill. The snow is as close to natural snow as you could get in this climate controled facility. At -6 C during the night they turn on the water from the ceiling and it turns into snowflakes adding 3-5inches of fresh snow a day. They have snow cats that groom the two runs and every morning is a blue bird packed powder day.

daronmoto.jpgDaron Rahlves not only kills it on skis, but he's no slouch on the motobike either. Check into his website to find out more about his dirt exploits. Next week, Red Bull Skiing hopes to catch up with Daron up at Mt. Hood where he's doing some summer testing for Atomic on the glacier. Stay tuned for a full report.

Until then, check out D's new gallery!
