Winter in August: Grete Eliassen

IMG_2742.JPGSkiing powder in August is the most amazing thing, ever! And skiing in Las Lenas, Argentina is just ridiculous in itself. I just spent a week in Las Lenas with my clothing sponsor Oakley testing new outerwear. It could not have been planned better either. We arrived at the Mendoza Airport (7 hr. van ride from the resort) the day after a huge storm hit the resort. Everyday after that would be sunny and beautiful as well.

Our hotel, Virgo, was one of about ten others located up in the middle of the mountains totally secluded from any other culture then skiing and snowboarding. This place was really unbelievable. Marie-France Roy (Red Bull Teammate) and I began to explore the mountain on our own the first day, but there was just so much terrain it would be impossible to even see a tenth of everything. The next couple of days we were directed by our guide, Jose, and the rest of the Oakley crew, which included Seth Morrison and Pep Fujas.

Every run we took started with the Marte, a two-seater chairlift that was basically the gateway to all the sick terrain. From that spot, the places to ski were endless, with a little hiking/traversing of course. My most memorable day at Las Lenas was when we took a left off the Marte and were met by a cat that brought us up to peak and from there we hiked across the mountains for a while and made it to the top of one of the sickest runs I've ever seen. I think it was called the "Taberenth," I'm not completely sure. Anyways, it started open on top with so many different types of features and lines. Then, slowly turned into a large shoot. Just being with everyone on the team and seeing how stoked everyone was and how stoked I felt, was just one of those amazing days skiing. And of course skiing powder in August, is just ridiculous.

I hope you enjoy the photos!
