About Shane: Shane McConkey is a dangerous man. Whether on snow, or in the air, he regularly does things that make the average person scared in the pants to even think about. With a career that spans nearly two decades, a small sampling of his feats include winning the World Extreme Skiing Championship, being voted #1 in countless magazine polls, inventing a ski that redefined the sport, and skiing off a skyscraper with a parachute.
Shane has always been a fan of the James Bond movies and last season he had a wish fulfilled by reenacting the chase scene from "The Spy Who Loved Me" in the latest Matchstick Production release. "That was really fun, working with guns and explosives and skiing off cliffs," he says. Later in the season, McConkey incorporated a wing-suit into his ski-base jumps, ripping off his skis in order to begin flying the suit. He honed his skills last summer in Norway, learning to pilot his wing-suit close to mountain faces and cliff ledges.
This season Shane has big plans on how his ski-base stunts will evolve, but he's not letting the cat out of the bag just yet. Check in here regularly to see what antics he's up to.

Once again Shane is bringing us more internet video goodness. Back on December 12th, Shane and Miles Daisher of the Red Bull Air Force celebrated the opening of the new Peak 2 Peak gondola at Whistler by jumping off half way. Makes total sense. Anyway, some TV station in Canuckistan makes a "Plays of the Year" segment each year and Shane and Miles' video of their jump leads off the segment. There's plenty of other Red Bull action in the form of Red Bull X-Fighters, Red Bull Air Race, and Robbie Madsen's New Year's Eve distance record from a little over a year ago. Apparently they didn't have the time to edit in Maddo's new height record, or another little record (***cough***Simon Dumont***cough***) that was set last year. Come on Canada, we know Simon doesn't play hockey, but we expect a bit more out of you on the skiing front, eh?
Here's the vid of the jump, click the link above to see it open the "Plays of the Year." P.S.Shane, is that a pig in your pants?

Some of us on the Red Bull Air Force recently returned from a really great trip to the state of Mexico in the country of Mexico near the city of Mexico City. It was really Mexican and it was a blast! We were there to shoot a multi sport TV show for the Mexican sports channel Televisa. Kind of like our ESPN. It was a show funded by the state of Mexico to help promote tourism in that area. Altius, the company hired to produce the show did a hell of a job juggling many different sports and trying to nail all the shots they needed in a less than a week. There were mountain bikers, break dancers, free runners (Parkour), Kirby one of our Red Bull Air Race pilots and then there was Mike Swanson, Jon DeVore, Miles Daisher and myself there to do some base jumping, skydiving, wing suit flights, mountain flying and swooping.
